After more than 10 years of operation of the equipment and subsequent repairs everything sobe bites corrosion in metal radiator and tank, I changed the whole system with the intention of eliminating energy costs.

I carried water from the mains with polyethylene pipe half inch (in this case the thickness does not matter because the pressure in the municipal system eliminates the problems of resistance) to the deposit yy with similar pipes carry hot water from the reservoir to the entrance of home gas heater, so that if the water is hot enough the gas heater just stop passing the water and do not have sufficient temperature, the gas heater thermostat triggers the normal combustion.



I insulated all pipes both the collector to the tank as this to the network.
The result is good.
remain unresolved corrosion problems (which are not small).

I'll describe the whole system self-constructed with recycled materials and installed in my home for over 10 years and continues to function, comprising:

One or more flat solar thermal collectors, a recirculation pump primary circuit, a storage tank of hot water with internal heat exchanger, a thermostat start and stop and a glass filler and expansion.

THE MAP COLLECTOR

is formed by a plane radiator used for heating painted black heatproof paint (I've tried several and finally polish cheapest is best, because every few years is to re-paint).

The radiator is embedded in a metal box made to fit the radiator, but leaving enough room to get both sides back as the insulating material. I use the first polyurethane foam, but the high temperatures melted it supports the collector, so I used rigid panels of fiberglass that I picked up from the rubble.

The box has a frame of iron in the front that can hold the glass closure.

I have used cutting remains moons shooting at glass stores, within the frames overlap, like shingles.

hermetic closure of the crystals can be done with silicone, but my repair and maintenance experience tells me it's better than not so tight end and just strip together tailor-made tires.

LA RECIRCULATION PUMP

is a pump for washing machine, placed so that the flow direction and the direction of water extraction. You can use any model and settle in any part of the primary circuit.

is preferable that the inlet and outlet of the pump are the same thickness as pipe circulation.

One of the electrical connections of the pump should go to a power pole electrical and other connections to a thermostat.

I have used the same one that came with electric heater I found shot and I use as a deposit. First I checked that it worked. Simply put a lighter flame to the tip of the sensor and then hear the thermostat click. A while later, when cool, you hear another click. Now comes

the hardest part.

the storage tank

I use an electric heater of 100 liters, I disassembled the electrical resistance and

closing part replaced by a similar plate with two holes where I welded two half-inch piers, which shall be secured on the inside ends of the exchanger. In my case the heat exchanger is a piece of polyethylene tuberiĆ­ ½ inch folded without strangling inside the tank. On another occasion I soldered to the same piece, inside, two copper pipes of 1 inch of the same length as the inside of the tank and bonded together by copper elbows. Besides expensive and difficult (the weld must be welded), performance was not much higher.

The exterior of the piers are threaded pipe coming from the panel.

The deposit is in horizontal position so that the flow of water through the heat exchanger requires less effort.

The two tubes of the heater itself, located on the highest and lowest are connected to the output of hot water and cold water inlet respectively.

In my case the hot water outlet of the tank is connected to the input of a gas heater for those times when there is not hot enough or need more volume or more hot water temperature.

CIRCUIT PACKAGING AND FILLING

tank could use a bathroom, but the thickness of the output and the difficulty assembly to find parts, made me choose a polyethylene container with the appropriate cover, used in ice cream kiosk, which I did a half-inch hole which hold a half-inch pier with tight rubber gaskets.

This vessel should be in a position higher than any of the points of the primary circuit and connected through tubing T to the primary.

Through this glass full of water all the primary circuit until the level is 1 / 3 of the glass.


If you put several collectors, the glass must be higher.

As it is logical all the pipes in the primary circuit must be isolated and if possible also in the water distribution piping hot.

This system may also include hot water heating circuit to preheat.
